What Makes Us Different

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this calculator free to use?
Yes! My Student Loan is completely free with no hidden costs. We may display ads to cover hosting costs, but the calculator itself is always free.
Q: Are the thresholds and rates up to date?
Yes. We use the current Student Loans Company thresholds for 2026/27. Plan 1: £24,990 | Plan 2: £27,295 | Plan 4: £31,395 | Plan 5: £25,000. All plans use 9% repayment rate.
Q: Do you store my salary information?
No. All calculations are performed locally in your browser. We don't collect, store, or transmit any salary or repayment information to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Q: How accurate are the calculations?
The calculator uses the exact same formula as the Student Loans Company: 9% of income above the threshold. However, this is an estimate only. Your actual repayments depend on your specific circumstances, tax code, and employment status. Always check your official Student Loans Company account for accurate figures.
Q: Which loan plan am I on?
Plan 1: Started before 1 September 2012 (England/Wales) or before 1998 (Scotland/NI). Plan 2: Started after 1 September 2012 (England/Wales). Plan 4: Studied in Scotland. Plan 5: Started after 1 August 2023 (England/Wales). Check your Student Loans Company account if you're unsure.
Q: What if I find an error in the calculation?
Please email us immediately at hello@my-student-loan.co.uk with details of the error, including the salary you entered and the plan type. We take accuracy very seriously and will investigate and fix any issues promptly.
Q: Do you provide financial advice?
No. We provide a calculation tool based on published Student Loans Company rates, but we do not provide financial or tax advice. For advice specific to your situation, please consult a qualified financial advisor or contact the Student Loans Company directly.
Q: Can I suggest a new feature?
Absolutely! We'd love to hear your ideas. Email us at hello@my-student-loan.co.uk with your suggestion.
